In continuation of our series of stories about treasures Odessa region, we could not ignore the sensational one year ago in Odessa media a story about the treasure Haidamaks that under assumptions of hunters themselves, just had to pull $ 30 million!
There was lots of haunters willing to tear off a big chunk of such treasure. Several groups of hunters, including from abroad, embarked on a search for "gold of Zheleznyaka", which was located near the town of Balta, Odessa region. Treasures were buried by Zheleznyak himself – the head of Koliyivshchyna (anti-Polish uprising in the Ukraine. 1786.), as historians from Balta, Narusevich and Taskin told the world. According to them, the treasure is buried in the "Krasny Yar" Yuzefgrada (Polish name Balta), near the central square of the gymnasium. At this point, as you know, once flaunted Castle Princes Lubomirski - the founders of the Balts.
So exactly what and how, historians learned? History of the values themselves proved to be quite bloody. After the famous "Uman massacre" in which Haidamaks cut over twenty thousand Jews, Poles and Ukrainians, and people of other religion (Greek Catholics). Zheleznyak was hiding with stolen goods in Uman, from Russian and Polish troops, and on June 16-18, the insurgents captured the Baltic and Turkish Yuzefgrad. In the massacre which perpetrated Haidamaks under the leadership of centurion Vasil Shiloh, was killed a great number of local residents. Departing from prosecution Maxim Zhelezniak decided to put his belongings here and decided to turn them in the animal skin and buried at the Jewish cemetery. Exactly evaluation of local ethnographer pointed to the amount of $ 30 million, and this despite the most conservative estimate.
Scientists argue that people knew about the treasure long before the revolution. There are evidence that in 1847 in the Baltic States a huge amount of treasure hunters has gathered. All summer they dug in Krasny Yar (with the permission of the City Council!), but didn`t manage to find anything. At that time, they decided that Zheleznyak did not only buried the stolen, but also cast a spell, why there is no luck to find the treasures. And since the revolution everyone had forgotten about the treasure thoroughly.
Not surprising that Narusevicha and Taskina information interested almost all Ukrainian and foreign clubs of hunters. Many of them are going to go to the Baltic and start investigations. Because this activity involves a lot of approvals and permits, almost all of them are not going to "legalize" the search, because of the reluctance to get involved in the bureaucratic fuss. In the informal conversation, meanwhile, they admit that the found treasure will be given to the state in exchange for part of the amount due under the law, but it is really the case? Or, again, Internet auctions will be selling the treasures that they dug up? Will wait and see ...
