The mysterious Tower in the Black Sea

At the bottom of the Black Sea archaeological divers discovered a mysterious tower. Yes, you have heard right! The tower is located off the southern coast of the Crimea in the underwater city of Acre. The tower is located off the southern coast of the Crimea in the underwater city of Acre.

City of Acre has been founded by divers about thirty years ago, but systematic studies began only recently. During this time, archaeologists have described a number of interesting finds and facts and even created underwater museum. Now everyone who is dressed in a full wetsuit, with scuba diving and flippers will be able to witness the "Crimean Atlantis"..

History tells us that the city of Acre refers to Greek era. It was a small port town that has existed since the end of the VI century BC to IV century AD. At one time it was located at the southernmost point of the Kerch Strait, at the foot of Cape Takil, but due to the collapse of part of the coast of Acre went under the water, including a 30-meter section of the defensive wall

This summer was extraordinary and special for the archaeologists. Researchers have focused mostly on carrying out the excavation. And the result was not long in coming! Members of the expedition was lucky to find at the bottom of the sea huge tower area of 6x6 meters, thereby once served as a defensive building. About this facility became known in the 1980s, but the sand bars are not allowed to establish the exact location. The excavations have revealed evidence that it has a height of 1-1.2 m. Find well preserved and consists of rusticated blocks of enormous size. Archaeologists tell us, that a defenses of this type are not on each mound.

It is noteworthy, the tower was installed on the wooden structure which is consisting of large beams. The purpose installation of wooden props for the tower is still unknown.
Viktor Vahoneev is the Head of the Department of Underwater Archaeology of Black Sea Undersea Research Center, notes that in fact, there is still only two versions of the installation of beams - it is a means of protection against seismic instability or high groundwater levels.
